Alexandar Georgiev is a professional ice hockey goaltender from Bulgaria who currently plays for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL). He holds the distinction of being the first player born in Bulgaria to compete in the NHL.

Throughout his hockey career, Georgiev has represented an array of teams across the globe. His notable performances secured him a place in the NHL All-Star Game in 2024 as part of Team MacKinnon. Additionally, he had the best GAA (1.70) in the Liiga in 2017. Moreover, Georgiev won a bronze medal at the 2019 IIHF World Championships and a silver medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships while representing Russia in ice hockey.

In July 2022, the negotiating rights to Alexandar Georgiev were traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for draft picks. He quickly agreed to a three-year, $10.2 million contract with the Avalanche on July 10, 2022. Georgiev joined the Colorado Avalanche ahead of the 2022-23 NHL season, marking a new chapter in his professional hockey career. As the team's goaltender, Georgiev made an immediate impact, showcasing his skills and contributing to the Avalanche's success.

In the regular season, Georgiev appeared in 62 games for the Avalanche, posting impressive statistics. He recorded 40 wins, 16 losses, and 6 overtime losses. Moreover, Georgiev played a total of 3701 minutes in net, allowing 156 goals against and securing 5 shutouts. Alexandar Georgiev began his hockey career in Russia after his family relocated there from Bulgaria shortly after his birth. He played for the Moscow-based Penguins before joining Khimik Voskresensk in Voskresensk, Russia, and later moving to Finland.

Georgiev made his debut in Liiga, Finland's top professional hockey league, with TPS during the 2014–15 season. Despite showcasing promise during his time with TPS, Georgiev went undrafted in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He also had a stint with SaPKo in the Mestis. However, he caught the attention of the New York Rangers during their developmental camp and signed a three-year entry-level contract with them on July 18, 2017. He was assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack to begin the 2017-18. Notably, he made his NHL debut on February 22, 2018, making 38 saves in a game against the Montreal Canadiens. On March 3 of the same year, Georgiev secured his first NHL win by stopping 35 shots in a game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Georgiev achieved several milestones during his time with the New York Rangers, including recording his first NHL shutout on November 21, 2018, and making a career-high 55 saves in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on February 10, 2019. However, he also faced challenges, such as an unforgettable game against the Washington Capitals on March 3, 2019, where he threw his stick at the puck after being faked out by Alexander Ovechkin, resulting in a controversial goal and granting a 3-2 shootout win to the Capitals.
