Christopher Tanev is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenseman for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League (NHL). He began his NHL journey with the Vancouver Canucks in 2010 after getting signed as a free agent by the team.
Prior to that, he played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes. His strong defensive performance in the OHL caught the attention of NHL scouts, leading to his selection in the NHL as an undrafted player. Chris Tanev signed as an undrafted free agent with the Vancouver Canucks on May 31, 2010, and quickly established himself as a solid defenseman. In 2015, Tanev received the Babe Pratt trophy, presented to the best defenseman in the Vancouver Canucks. He joined the Calgary Flames on October 9, 2020, after spending 10 seasons with the Canucks. However, his stay with the Flames was short-lived as he was traded in a three-team deal to the Dallas Stars with the New Jersey Devils retaining some salary.

Chris Tanev's Early Days
Chris Tanev was born in East York, Ontario and began his hockey journey in the Greater Ontario Hockey League with the Toronto Red Wings. For the 2006-07 season, he started with the Durham Fury where he recorded nine assists over 40 games. The following season, he had stints across the Stouffville Spirit, Markham Royals and Fury across 49 games.
For the 2009-10 season, Tanev joined the NCAA Division I with the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers of the Atlantic Hockey Conference. During his rookie season there, he recorded 18 assists alongside 10 goals for 28 points. Moreover, he was the recipient of the Rookie of the Year honors.
