Jake Guentzel is an American ice hockey professional left winger playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL). Notably, Guentzel comes from a hockey-loving family as his father Mike Guentzel, and established himself as a notable athlete at Greenway High School in Coleraine, Minnesota. Growing up, Jake attended Hill-Murray School in Maplewood, Minnesota, where he started playing hockey. His skills helped lead his high school team to an impressive second-place finish in the 2012 MN State Hockey Tournament. Moreover, he committed himself to the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he quickly made his impact, earning many honors such as getting named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and the NCHC All-Conference Rookie Team.

Additionally, he was a finalist for the NCHC Rookie of the Year award. In the meantime, taking notice of his skills on the ice, the Pittsburgh Penguins drafted him in the third round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft while still at college. Remarkably, he continued with the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks till the 2015-16 season before signing a three-year, entry-level deal with the Penguins on May 23, 2016. He was soon assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL before making his debut with a memorable two-goal performance against the New York Rangers in November of that year.

Jake Guentzel’s Stanley Cup History-

Jake Guentzel debuted during the 2016-17 season and secured his first Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins that season. Notably, he joined an elite list of players who have won the prestigious championship in their rookie season.

En route to the finals, Guentzel recorded 13 goals and eight assists in 25 games. This included a hat trick on April 16, 2017, with a game-winning goal in overtime, helping the Penguins to a 3–0 lead in their first-round playoff series against the Columbus Blue Jackets. With this milestone, Jake became the first rookie in the Penguins to score a playoff hat-trick and only the second rookie in NHL history to achieve this accomplishment. Finally, on June 11, 2017, the Penguins managed to secure the Stanley Cup by defeating the Nashville Predators, celebrating their sixth Stanley Cup victory. Notably, he tied Dino Ciccarelli and Ville Leino for points in a single postseason and was just one shy of Ciccarelli’s record.

The following season saw him join an elite list of players like Mario Lemieux and Kevin Stevens, becoming the third Penguins player in history to score four goals in a playoff game. However, the Penguins could not get past the second round of the playoffs. The subsequent seasons weren't too kind to Guentzel nor the Penguins as they failed to get past the first round in four seasons while they failed to qualify in two seasons after that. Guentzel in the meantime has scored 34 playoff goals and has recorded 24 assists throughout his postseason career.
