Matt Duchene is a professional ice hockey centre who currently plays for the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League (NHL) after a successful career with the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Nashville Predators.

As an 18-year-old rookie in the 2009-10 season, he led all rookies with 55 points, helping the Avalanche make the playoffs. He was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and finished third in Calder Trophy voting. Moreover, Duchene became the youngest player in Avalanche history to reach 100 career points and leading the team in scoring in the 2010-11 season. After playing with the Avalanche until 2017, he was traded to the Ottawa Senators and later to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Duchene signed with the Nashville Predators in 2019 and surpassed 700 NHL points in 2022. Furthermore, in 2023, the Predators bought out his contract, and he signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Stars.

Matt Duchene holds Canadian nationality and debuted internationally at the 2008 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, scoring ten points in six games to help Team Ontario win gold. Later that year, he captained Canada’s under-18 team to gold at the IIHF World U18 Championships and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. In 2010, after his rookie NHL season, Duchene joined Canada's senior team for the IIHF World Championship in Germany, recording seven points in seven games. He played again in the 2011 World Championship but went scoreless. Duchene was also part of Canada’s 2014 Winter Olympics team in Sochi, contributing to their gold medal win after stepping in following John Tavares' injury. He was a key player at the 2015 World Championship, tying for third in scoring as Canada won gold with a perfect record.

Matt Duchene grew up in Lindsay, Ontario where he started his minor hockey career with the Central Ontario Wolves in the OMHA's Eastern AAA League and played for his hometown Haliburton Huskies. Initially interested in NCAA college hockey, he shifted to the OHL, being selected by the Brampton Battalion in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection. During his junior career with the Battalion, Duchene scored 30 goals and 50 points in his rookie season (2007-08) and improved to 79 points the following season. He helped lead the team to the J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals in 2009.
