On Monday, at the Smilezone Celebrity Golf Tournament in Brampton, Ontario, Corey Perry explained why many ex-Oilers want to return. He credited Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
"It starts with Connor and Leon and the way they embrace the city and the fans embrace them," Perry said. "And to build on what we accomplished. It's not the ultimate goal, but we can be pretty proud."
Perry re-signed with the Edmonton Oilers for $1.4 million AAV, including bonuses. He played 38 regular-season games after joining as a free agent on Jan. 22. The forward took pride in the team's success and the strong community feeling within the franchise.
Predators star Ryan O'Reilly also attended the event. Perry's comments show the positive atmosphere of the Oilers' top players and the strong bond with fans.

Edmonton Oilers lineup scenarios amid free agency moves
The Edmonton Oilers traded prospects Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson to the Ottawa Senators. In return, they received Roby Jarventie and a fourth-round draft pick. This trade adds depth to the Oilers' forward lineup.
Jarventie will need some time to adjust. The Oilers' top forwards include Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson. Dylan Holloway, Derek Ryan and Corey Perry are also on the roster but have some questions.
Raphael Lavoie and James Hamblin might get a chance to play. Evander Kane's injury status could affect roster decisions. Young prospects like Matt Savoie could make an impact this season.
