Montreal Canadiens forward Kirby Dach scored his first goal in 19 games during the Canadiens' 3-2 shootout victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night.
The goal snapped a lengthy drought for the 23-year-old Dach, who now has two goals and seven assists in 28 games this season, while carrying a -21 plus/minus rating.
Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis praised Dach despite his struggles this season.
"Sometimes in life, when you do the right things and stuff, you get a bounce; I think he got a bounce on his goal and sometimes that's all you need," St. Louis said.
Dach was appreciative of the support received from his teammates during his goalless stretch.
"I think you feel the family & the love & the trust we have in each other as teammates & what we are in this locker room, when guys are happy for other guys’ success. It’s real nice of everybody to help me through this stretch I’ve kinda gone through," Dach remarked.
In the win, Patrik Laine scored the game winner for Montreal in the shootout. He also scored in regulation, where Anaheim received two goals from Troy Terry. Lukas Dostal made 19 saves in the loss, while Sam Montembeault made 27 saves.
Game Recap: Canadiens' 3-2 shootout win against the Anaheim Ducks
Patrik Laine opened the scoring for the Canadiens with a power play goal early in the first period on a slap shot set up by Nick Suzuki.
The Ducks responded with a pair of goals from Troy Terry to take a 2-1 lead in the second period. However, the Canadiens responded 11 seconds later when Kirby Dach scored after Anaheim goalie Lukas Dostal had misplayed the puck.
"We just had a one of our worst period and then you you want it, we talk about you know we've been good at regaining momentum," Martin St. Louis said.
"You want to jump in that second period and okay let's correct ourselves, and you know you have to kill two penalties it's hard, but I felt after that, you know, I felt we got after we got the bounce."
That tied the game at 2-2 heading into the third period. With no scoring in overtime, the game went to a shootout. There, Laine stepped up for Montreal once again, scoring in the shootout to give Montreal a 3-2 victory.
