Kirby Dach is a Canadian professional ice hockey center currently playing for the Montreal Canadians in the National Hockey League (NHL). Born on January 21, 2001, Dach played in the Western Hockey League with the Saskatoon Blades before getting selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft as the third overall pick.


He was sent to the Rockford IceHogs before getting called by the Blackhawks in October 2019. Dach made his debut against the Washington Capitals and scored his first NHL goal against Marc-André Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights in a 2-1 loss. On the contrary, he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for the 13th overall pick and a third-round selection at the 2022 NHL entry draft.

Kirby Dach's Early Days

Kirby Dach was introduced to ice hockey by his elder brother at the age of five. He started playing ice hockey in a backyard rink and on Garner Lake, near his family’s home.


As a child, Dach was a big fan of the Edmonton Oilers and attended the games with his father. He played his minor hockey with the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers of the Alberta Midget Hockey League where he honed his skills. At the age of 13, Dach set a league record with 100 points in 33 games which became a standout moment of his junior hockey career. His later journey included stints with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL). During his 2016-17 season in the WHL, he scored six goals and 10 points in just 19 games and the following season he recorded seven goals and 39 assists.
