Since youngsters weren't allowed to ride motorcycles, they created the BMX by simply copying their motocross idols and using hilly dirt courses, motocross-inspired helmets, and clothes to ride on their bicycles back in the 1960s.
In 1981, the International BMX Federation (IBMXF) was established due to the growing interest in the new sport worldwide. However, in 1993, the IBMXF was merged into the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The sport made its Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Probably, the first BMX race was run by Scot Breithaupt, a then-14-year-old Californian in Long Beach in 1970, who also founded the first BMX "governing body," which was dubbed the Bicycle United Motocross Society, or BUMS, in humor.
The American Bicycle Association (ABA), the National Bicycle League (NBL), and the National Bicycle Association (NBA) were the three most significant organizations in the USA. However, with the merger of the ABA and NBA, USA BMX was formed in 2011.
