Eleven-year veteran point guard Kayla McBride is a professional basketball player who plays for the Minnesota Lynx in the Western Conference of the WNBA. At 5 foot 11 inches tall, McBride began her basketball journey at Villa Maria Academy school then later attended the University of Notre Dame, where she played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team and quickly gained recognition as one of the top point guards in the state. During her college career, McBride earned several honors including being named to the First-team All-Big East and receiving the Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player award in the same year. Additionally, she was selected to the WBCA Coaches' All-American team twice.

In the 2014 WNBA Draft, McBride was chosen as the third overall pick by the San Antonio Stars, and from here she started her professional career. She made an immediate impact in her rookie season, averaging 13.0 points per game and earning a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team. Throughout her WNBA career, McBride has been selected as a WNBA All-Star four times and was part of the Minnesota team that won the WNBA Commissioner's Cup in 2024. In 2024 WNBA season, McBride averaged 15 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.6 rebounds as the starting point guard of the Minnesota Lynx team. Along with WNBA, McBride also plays in 'Unrivaled', a 3x3 basketball league for a team called Laces Basketball Club.

Kayla McBride began her basketball journey in her hometown at a private Roman Catholic school named Villa Maria Academy where she won two Pennsylvania Class AA state titles under the coach of Scott Dibble. Starting from her recognition as a McDonald's All-American in 2010, she achieved remarkable success at the school level, which paved the way for her outstanding college career. In college, she was named a First-team All-American by both the Associated Press (AP) and the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) in 2014, and a Third-team All-American by the AP in 2013.
