"The American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes is a professional grappler who competes on WWE's SmackDown brand as of April 2025. He started training under his father, Dusty Rhodes, at 12. He began his wrestling career in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) under WWE, where he won the OVW Heavyweight Championship and the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship. He made his TV debut in 2007 and became famous for the stable "Legacy" with Ted DiBiase Jr and Randy Orton. He won the World Tag Team title with Hardcore Holly once and twice with Ted DiBiase Jr. The Prince of Dark Matter also bagged the Intercontinental title twice before he departed from WWE in 2016.
Cody Rhodes performed on free circuits from 2016 to 2018 and won several titles in Ring of Honor, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling/Impact Wrestling, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. He became a founding member of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2018 and served as a vice president of the promotion from 2019 to 2022. He won the AEW TNT Championship three times during his tenure with AEW. Cody re-signed with WWE in 2022 and won the Men’s Royal Rumble in 2023. He got the title shot against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. The following year, he won the Royal Rumble for the second time and finished his story by defeating Reigns at WrestleMania XL to become the new WWE Undisputed Champion.
