The Bloodline storyline is a central narrative in WWE's modern era. The faction derives its name from the familial ties of most members to the Anoaʻi family, a prominent lineage in Samoan wrestling. At its center is the leader, the Tribal Chief, who wears the Ula Fala. In Samoan tradition, the Ula Fala represents leadership and is worn by chiefs to signify their authority within their families and tribes.
The current Tribal Chief in WWE
Roman Reigns is the current Tribal Chief in WWE. The 6 ft 3 in tall grappler is also known as the “Original Tribal Chief” (OTC). When The Bloodline stable was officially formed in July 2021, Reigns was the first to assume the role of Tribal Chief. However, after losing the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, Solo Sikoa claimed the leadership of the group.
Sikoa reorganized The Bloodline, removing Jimmy Uso and adding Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa as members. Over time, Sikoa began disregarding Reigns' guidance and dismissed Paul Heyman from his role. Eventually, he removed Reigns from the leadership position and the faction, declaring himself the new Tribal Chief.
At SummerSlam 2024, Roman Reigns returned and assisted Cody Rhodes in retaining his title by attacking Solo Sikoa. This led to a tag team match at Bad Blood 2024, where Reigns and Rhodes defeated Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. At Crown Jewel 2024, The Bloodline defeated Reigns and The Usos, with Sikoa securing the win by pinning Reigns. Following that, Reigns aligned with The Usos, Sami Zayn, and CM Punk to face The Bloodline and Bronson Reed in a WarGames match at Survivor Series 2024, where Reigns' team claimed victory.
Despite the victory, Sikoa remained the Tribal Chief, holding on to the prestigious Ula Fala. So on the December 13, 2024 episode of SmackDown, Reigns issued a challenge to Sikoa for the Ula Fala and the title of Tribal Chief. The match was scheduled as Tribal Combat for the debut episode of WWE Raw on Netflix on January 6, 2025. During the event, Reigns defeated Sikoa in a match lasting 21 minutes and 30 seconds to become the Tribal Chief. After the match, The Rock appeared and acknowledged Reigns as the Tribal Chief by presenting him with the Ula Fala.
