Max Stassi is an American professional baseball catcher, playing for the San Francisco Giants. He joined the Giants on November 24, 2024, signing a minor league contract with them. Previously, he played for the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB). Max Stassi attended Yuba City High School in Yuba City, California.

During his high school career, he received The Sacramento Bee's Player of the Year award twice. Additionally, he represented the United States national baseball team and won a gold medal at both the 2006 Pan American Games held in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, and at the International Baseball Federation’s 16-and-Under Baseball World Championship in 2007. Following high school, Stassi enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he played collegiate baseball for the UCLA Bruins. In 2009, he was selected by the Oakland Athletics during the fourth round of that year’s MLB Draft as their 123rd overall pick. In 2013, he was traded to the Houston Astros and made his Major League debut with them on August 20, 2013. In 2019, Max joined and played for the Los Angeles Angels for a year.

Max Stassi's contract

Max Stassi signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on November 24, 2024. Previously, Stassi had signed a 3-year deal worth $17.5 million with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022. However, during a 2023 spring training game, he suffered a hip strain and was placed on the injured list. In September 2023, the Yuba City, California native announced he would not return to the Angels that season due to a medical issue with his family. His son arrived 3+ months early and also faced several medical issues. On October 2023, he and his wife revealed their ordeal through a post on Instagram.

On December 8, 2023, the Angels traded Stassi to the Chicago White Sox in a player trade deal. In 2024, he remained on the injured list due to hip inflammation. Stassi was transferred to the 50-day injured list and underwent a season-ending left hip resurfacing procedure. Following the season, the White Sox declined his 2025 option for a $500,000 buyout. Subsequently, Stassi signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants, starting the 2025 season with the Giants.
