Aaron Wiggins is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA. Wiggins grew up playing multiple sports, including basketball, football, and track & field.

Wiggins played for Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina before transferring to Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, North Carolina for his senior season to gain more recognition from scouts.

As a senior, Wiggins was an NCISAA Class 3A All-State Selection and played for Team Charlotte in the Amateur Athletic Union Circuit. He was a consensus four-star recruit coming out of high school and committed to the University of Maryland in June 2017, where he had drawn the attention of the school’s coaching staff.

Wiggins began his career at Maryland as a starter, but later told the coaching staff that he would be more comfortable coming off the bench. He excelled coming off the bench and played the most minutes out of anyone on the bench.

He finished his freshman season averaging 8.3 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting 41.3% from 3-point range. As a sophomore, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game and was named Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year. After his junior season, Wiggins averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while earning All-Big Ten honorable mention. In April 2021, he declared for the NBA while maintaining his final year of college eligibility. However, he later declared completely for the draft, foregoing his college eligibility.

Wiggins was selected as the 55th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft and has been an integral part of the Thunder’s rebuild and resurgence back to NBA contention. Wiggins, along with guard Isaiah Joe, have been the two key bench pieces for the Thunder and this season would be key for both of them as the team aims to make a deep run in the playoffs.
