Jones attended Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama. After spending his sophomore year at Pinson Valley High School, he shifted to Mountain Brook and joined Mountain Brook High School. Bucky McMillan (Basketball coach) trained Colby Jones at the Mountain Brook High School.
He averaged 14 points and five rebounds per game in his junior year. Jones and his teammate Trendon Watford led the Mountain Brook High School basketball team to a state championship. The team won the Class 7A State Title.
He was named the All-South Metro Player of the Year, Over the Mountain Journal Player of the Year, and Alabama Class 7A Player of the Year. Following his senior year, Colby got many offers to play college basketball, but he chose the Xavier Musketeers men’s basketball team over Alabama, Georgia, UAB and Auburn.
Colby Jones missed the initial five games of the regular season at Xavier due to COVID-19. He participated in his first season match against the Providence Friars men’s basketball team and won the match. Colby averaged 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in his freshman season. This season, Colby was named on the Big-East All-Freshman Team.
