Known for his exceptional shooting skills, Douglas "Doug" Richard McDermott is a veteran forward who plays for the Indiana Pacers. Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, McDermott grew up around basketball, as his father was the assistant coach at University of North Dakota.

During his high school years at Ames High School in Ames, Iowa, McDermott played alongside future NBA star Harrison Barnes. Together, they led the team to 53 consecutive wins and consecutive Iowa state titles.

McDermott then continued his basketball career at Creighton University, where his father was the coach. He had an illustrious college career, emerging as an elite shooter and earning accolades such as National College Player of the Year in 2014. McDermott also set an NCAA record by scoring in double figures in 135 games, and his jersey #3 was retired by the Creighton Bluejays.

In the 2014 NBA Draft, the Denver Nuggets selected McDermott with the 11th overall pick. However, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls on draft night. He quickly showcased his shooting abilities in the NBA, shooting an impressive 42.5% from 3-point range in just his second season.

In 64 games for the San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers in the 2023/24 season, McDermott averaged 4.2 points per game.
