Fred Vanvleet attended Auburn High School in Rockford, Illinois. He led his school basketball team to several championships. As a senior year student in 2012, he guided his school to win its first Illinois High School Association (IHSA) final four. After this season, Fred decided to play basketball at the college level for Wichita State.


As a first-year student at college, Fred led his college team to the 2013 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. In this tournament, he competed against many teams including Gonzaga and Ohio State. Fred had an impressive overall performance in these championships.

Due to injury, He just played for three minutes in a match against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers in November. Fred had a poor performance in the next matches which resulted in many defeats. He returned to the court after recovering from the injury in December. He averaged 13.5 points and 5 assists over two victories.


After this, Fred went on to have a rocking performance in the next matches. He led his college team to the 2016 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. In this tournament, Wichita State defeated the Vanderbilt and Arizona. After this season, Fred entered the 2016 NBA draft but went undrafted. He signed with the Toronto Raptors to play in the 2016 NBA Summer League. Later, this agreement was converted into a multi-year deal.
