Haywood Highsmith

Haywood Highsmith is an American basketball player currently donning a jersey of Miami Heat of the NBA. He began his basketball journey in Baltimore, Maryland, playing at Archbishop Curley High School.

Later, Highsmith played for Wheeling University, where he played for four seasons. Highsmith's senior year was particularly notable, earning him accolades such as the Mountain East Conference Player of the Year after averaging an impressive 22 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.

Despite a great four-year college career at Wheeling University, Highsmith went undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft, but he didn't give up on his dreams. Highsmith signed with the Delaware Blue Coats in the G League and spent the next two seasons improving his overall skills, eventually earning a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, it turned out to be a small stint at the NBA level as Highsmith played only 5 games for the Sixers. Highsmith was soon back in the G League for his second stint.

For the 2020-21, Highsmith decided to gain experience in Europe as he chose to play for Crailsheim Merlins in Germany but just after a year, he returned to the US for yet another stint with the Delaware Blue Coats in G League, his third G League stint. This time around, Highsmith's game improved drastically, and with polished fundamentals and a solid two-way game, he caught the attention of the Miami Heat, who signed him in 2021.

Since joining the Heat, he has proven himself as a valuable bench player, contributing to their 2023 playoff run. In Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, he scored a then-playoff career-high 15 points, and in Game 1 of the 2023 NBA Finals, he matched his career high of 18 points, showcasing his abilities to perform on the biggest stage.
