JT Thor is a Sudanese-American professional basketball player who plays for the NBA franchise Washington Wizards. Born, in Omaha, Nebraska, JT Thor started playing basketball in seventh grade and later developed into a consensus four-star recruit. He played high school basketball at West Anchorage High School in Alaska, then transferred to Huntington Prep in West Virginia, and later to Norcross High School in Georgia. JT Thor played one season at Auburn, averaging 9.4 points per game, and then he got drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. He was soon traded to the Charlotte Hornets, where he spent three seasons from 2021 to 2024 before signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2024. He was waived by the Cavs in March 2025 and after clearing his waivers he signed with the Wizards and made his debut for them on 11 March 2025.
During his time with the Hornets, JT Thor averaged only 3.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game, while shooting 41.8% from the field and 32.0% from three. His best season came in 2022-23 when he appeared in 69 NBA games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. In 2024, Thor signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers but was sent to the NBA G League. JT Thor represents South Sudan in international FIBA competitions. He played in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he averaged 6.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 1 steal, and 0.7 blocks per game.
