NCAA tournament concluded with UConn winning their 5th overall title, while AAC top team Houston Cougars’ challenge ended at the Sweet 16 level. But that didn’t stop praises for future NBA Star Marcus Sasser.
Star Guard performed to the highest level in the 2023 season. He averaged 17 points shooting above 51% from the field. He also recorded 3.1 assists per game with less than 2 turnovers during the period. Sasser led the Houston team to a commendable 17-1 record in AAC, making them favorites of the tournament. Marcus also won the AAC player of the Tournament award.
Apart from the hard work Marcus Sasser has put up for this success, he has the game in his genes. Let us go through Marcus’ parents to give you a brief idea about the same.
Marcus Sasser’s parents
Marcus Jerome Sasser Jr. was born September 21, 2000, to Marcus Sr. and Monique. Marcus Sasser Sr was also a basketball player, who participated in basketball for Frank Phillips College when he was a student there.
His uncles were also in the game. It is also worth mentioning that Uncle Jason brought Marcus into the game. Under the direction of his uncle Jason, he participated in the basketball program at Red Oak High School. The Texas-bound star evolved as a great ball handler and shooter in the next few years.
Well, it is not only the immediate generation that inspired Marcus to pursue the ball game. His grandfather, Jeryl Sasser Sr., played at North Texas State in the early 1970s. James and Marquis Sasser are Marcus’s other brothers, who share his passion for sports in the same way.
Marcus Sasser’s mother also encourages her boy to work towards his ultimate goal. She mentioned, “His dad and his uncle spent a lot of time in the gym when he was a little boy. The Sassers have played ball in the DFW area for many years, so they are very well known,”
The star guard also gives credit for his ability to make 3-point shots to both his father and uncles. As a graduating senior, he won the Most Valuable Player for District 14-5A and All-State in Class 5A. Marcus had 4 options for College and chose to play college basketball for Houston.
Sasser was also named to the Associated Press All-America First Team this season. He’s expected to enter the NBA draft once he’s finished at the University of Houston.
