Moritz Wagner is a German professional basketball player who plays as a backup center for the Orlando Magic. He plays with his younger brother Franz Wagner on the Magic's squad. Born on April 26, 1997, in Berlin, Germany, Wagner played for Alba Berlin's youth team and also made appearances in the Bundesliga and Euroleague.
While playing in Germany, Wagner caught the attention of John Beilien, former head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. He recruited Wagner to play for the University of Michigan, who chose college over playing professionally.
Wagner played three seasons of college ball at the University of Michigan, alongside Caris LeVert and Jordan Poole. Wagner has been an effective scorer off the bench who is also utilized as a screen setter.
Wagner is only one of 10 players to have recorded more than 140 assists and 300 points from their screens in less than 1500 minutes. He has also drawn 24 charges, the most amongst centers. He also played an integral part in Germany's 2023 FIBA World Cup triumph, averaging 11.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game on 60.4% shooting from the field.
