Born into a basketball family, Seth's parents played a crucial role in shaping his journey as a professional player. We will explore the background and influence of Dell Curry and Sonya Curry, Seth Curry's parents, who not only passed down their love for the game but also instilled the values of hard work, dedication, and resilience that have propelled their sons to greatness on the basketball court.

Seth Curry’s Parents

Seth Curry already had basketball genes as he was born to former NBA star Dell Curry and Sonya Curry. Dell Curry, Seth's father, enjoyed a successful career as an NBA player. He played in the league for 16 seasons. Dell Curry was considered a deadly shooter from the range and also was renowned for his scoring ability in the box.

Dell Curry spent the majority of his career with the Charlotte Hornets, where he became the franchise's all-time leading scorer at the time of his retirement. His shooting prowess and consistent performances served as an inspiration for Seth and his older brother, Stephen, as they grew up surrounded by the game. It is said that Seth and Steph used to practice shooting with the team, allowing them to gain some insights regarding different techniques.

Seth's mother, Sonya Curry, on the other hand, played a crucial role in nurturing her son's passion for basketball. While not a professional athlete herself, Sonya provided unwavering support and encouragement to her children. She witnessed many of her kid’s achievements throughout their high school and college careers.

Though she is not a professional basketball player, being surrounded by the environment, she offered them guidance and advice off the court. Sonya's influence extended beyond the game, instilling in her sons the importance of education, humility, and integrity.

Seth Curry’s NBA career

Although he had a strong game and basketball background, Seth Curry initially struggled to settle into the NBA. He even went undrafted in the 2013 NBA draft and played in the G-league team Santa Cruz Warriors. He then played for Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns and Memphis Grizzlies on a 10-day contract. His actual NBA journey started in 2015, when he signed a 2-year contract with the Sacramento Kings.

After a season with the Kings, his performances attracted many suitors, but Seth Curry chose to play for Dallas Mavericks in 2016. Although his injuries limited his game time, Curry’s ability to bounce back and perform at the highest level was praised by many.

Curry later played for Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers, after being traded nearly every season. He made it to the conference finals with the Blazers but was defeated by his brother Steph in straight games. It was the first time that a set of brothers faced each other in an NBA playoff series.

Currently, Seth Curry is playing for Brooklyn Nets and averaging 11 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds per game over 438 games played throughout his career.

With father and brother being NBA players, Seth’s younger sister Sydel Curry is also an athlete and played Volleyball during college days and is married to yet another basketball star Damion Lee. In all Seth Curry benefited with the complete athletic environment in the family. Seth Curry's journey as a professional basketball player is deeply rooted in the influence of his parents, Dell and Sonya Curry. Their basketball backgrounds, unwavering support, and instilled values have played a significant role in shaping Seth's career.
