Kenneth "Trey" Murphy III is an American professional basketball player who plays for the New Orleans Pelicans. Born on June 18, 2000, in Durham, North Carolina, Murphy III began his basketball journey at the Cary Academy in Cary, North Carolina.

For college, Murphy III chose to attend Rice University where he played from 2018 to 2020, before transferring to Virginia for the 2020/2021 season. Under coach Tony Bennett at Virginia, Murphy posted a highly efficient 50–40–90 season, which led to him being selected 17th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies soon traded Murphy III to the Pelicans in a deal that involved the swap of Jonas Valanciunas and Steven Adams, and this proved to be a masterstroke of a trade for the Pelicans.

In his rookie season, Murphy primarily operated off the bench. However, in his second year, he started gaining recognition as a fearsome 3-point shooter and many started to believe that getting Murphy in a trade was an amazing business by the Pelicans.

At 6 feet 8 inches tall, Murphy's extremely high release point makes it nearly impossible to block his shots. Many have started calling him "Trigga Trey," due to his ability to consistently score at a high percentage from deep.
