Tyus Jones Contract

Last Modified Nov 26, 2023 16:42 GMT

Tyus Jones is an American point guard who currently plays for the Washington Wizards. Born on May 10, 1996, Jones has solidified himself as one of the NBA's premier ball-handling point guards, known for his exceptional ball security and minimal turnovers.

Hailing from Apple Valley, Minnesota, Jones enjoyed a stellar five-star high school career, culminating in a one-season stint at Duke, where he played a huge role in leading the Blue Devils to the NCAA title. Jones earned the Most Outstanding Player award in the 2015 NCAA championship game.

Selected 24th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jones found his way to the Minnesota Timberwolves, his hometown team. For the next eight years, Jones carved out a niche for himself in the NBA by being a backup point guard behind the likes of Ricky Rubio and Jeff Teague, and later Ja Morant with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Even as a backup point guard, Jones’ performances stood out, as he earned recognition for being one of the league's best ball handlers. His ability to control the game and set up plays was evident in his breaking of the assist-to-turnover single-season record.

First, Jones made NBA history by posting an impressive 6.96 assist-to-turnover ratio with the Timberwolves. Later, in the 2021–22 season with the Memphis Grizzlies, he surpassed his own record with a remarkable 7.04 assists to turnover ratio.

In a significant move on June 22, 2023, Tyus Jones became part of a three-team deal, joining the Washington Wizards. In this blockbuster trade, Tyus Jones landed with the Washington Wizards, meanwhile, Kristaps Porziņģis was sent to the Boston Celtics, and Marcus Smart ended up with the Memphis Grizzlies. Now with the Washington Wizards, Tyus Jones brings his wealth of experience to the young team.
