Jaylin Smith is an American college football player who has announced his return to the USC Trojans for his final season of eligibility. Smith started his football career at Bishop Alemany High School where he had a promising high school career and played in several positions. He showcased his versatility and athleticism by playing as a cornerback, wide receiver, and running back and was named a 2020 Prep Star All-American. In his junior year, Smith registered 60 tackles and two interceptions on defense while making 10 receptions for 211 yards with two touchdowns. The four-star safety from Palmdale started his collegiate football journey with USC Trojans despite receiving offers from Division I schools like Arizona State, Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, LSU, and Auburn.

In his freshman season, Smith saw action in ten games with one start and mostly played on special teams. The following year as a sophomore, Smith saw more playing time as he appeared in 11 games while recording 37 tackles and two pass breakups. But he witnessed his breakthrough campaign last year when he charted 75 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one forced fumble in 12 games as a junior. In the last three years, Smith has become a key contributor in the Trojan secondary. In his three seasons at the Coliseum, Smith recorded 123 total tackles, three pass breakups, two sacks, one QB and two interceptions.
