The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is all set to take place in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9, 2025. Over the years, we have seen several batting pairs light up the ICC Champions Trophy with record-breaking partnerships that have altered the course of the match for their respective sides.
The upcoming tournament will have eight teams divided into two groups of four each. Defending champions and hosts Pakistan and India are placed in Group A alongside New Zealand and Bangladesh. Group B consists of Australia, South Africa, England, and Afghanistan. The tournament will open on February 19, when Pakistan faces New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The record for the highest opening partnership in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy is jointly held by India’s Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag and the West Indian duo of Chris Gayle and Wavell Hinds.
Ganguly and Sehwag reportedly scored 192 runs against England in Colombo during the 2002 Champions Trophy. Their partnership helped the Indians chase England’s 269 with ease. Two years later, Gayle (99 off 132) and Hinds (82 off 119) racked up 192 runs in Southampton to help West Indies post 269/3 in the 2004 Champions Trophy.

The record for the highest second-wicket partnership reportedly belongs to the Australian duo of Shane Watson (136* off 132) and Ricky Ponting (111* off 115), who racked up unbeaten 252 runs in the run-chase of 258 against England in the first semi-final of the 2009 Champions Trophy, helping the eventual champions in a nine-wicket win. This is also the highest partnership stand for any wicket in the history of the tournament.

The record for the highest sixth-wicket stand goes to South Africa’s Justin Kemp and Mark Boucher.
