The ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, 2025, where eight top sides will battle in Pakistan and Dubai for the title of the Champion of Champions. One of the many intense battles in the upcoming edition of ICC CT is India vs. New Zealand. The BlackCaps have been India’s arch-nemesis in ICC events for decades. India did exact redemption in 2023 when they defeated New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The two sides will face each other at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 2, 2025.
ICC Champions Trophy: India vs. New Zealand head-to-head record
India and New Zealand have reportedly faced each other just once in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy, as of February 2025. Their only encounter took place in the summit clash of the 2000 edition in Nairobi, where the BlackCaps emerged victorious by four wickets to lift the title. This is the only white-ball title that the New Zealand men’s cricket team has won in its history. After a 25-year wait, the two sides will face each other in the upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy.

India vs. New Zealand, 1st match (ICC Champions Trophy 2000)
After defeating world champions Australia and South Africa in the quarterfinal and semi-final respectively, the Sourav Ganguly-led unit met the Stephen Fleming-led Kiwis in the summit clash of the ICC Knockout Trophy on October 15, 2000. Batting first, Ganguly led the charge with a 130-ball 117, with nine fours and four sixes. He and Sachin Tendulkar who scored 69 off 83 recorded 141 runs in just over 26 overs. However, the run-out of Sachin and the dismissal of Ganguly in the 43rd over triggered a collapse and India went from being 201/1 at the end of the 39th over to posting 264/6 in 50 overs.
Defending 265, India got off to a perfect start as seam-bowler Venkatesh Prasad who went for 3/27 in seven overs. Leg-spinner Anil Kumble also contributed by bowling 2/55 in nine overs, reducing New Zealand to 132/5 in the 24th over. However, a calculated innings from all-rounder Chris Cairns who scored 102* off 113, and a steady 72-ball 46 by Chris Harris, paved the way for a four-wicket win for the Kiwis in the last over of the run-chase.
