Shreyas Santosh Iyer is a professional Indian cricketer born on December 6, 1994, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He represents the Indian men’s cricket team across all formats in international cricket. Iyer is a right-handed batter who plays in the middle order. He can also bowl part-time right-arm leg-break.

Iyer led the Knight Riders to their third IPL title by winning the IPL 2024. He will play for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Iyer became the second-most expensive bid in IPL auction history in the IPL 2025 mega auction, as per the IPL’s official website.

As of December 2024, Shreyas Iyer was dropped from BCCI’s annual retainership for the year 2023-24. However, he earned a lucrative amount from the Punjab Kings for IPL 2025.

Shreyas Iyer's IPL team salary

The Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) signed Shreyas Iyer for INR 2.6 crores (USD 416,000 approximately) in the IPL 2015 auction. He was retained for a couple of seasons for the same price. Iyer was retained for INR 7 crores ahead of the IPL 2018 mega auction. He continued to feature in IPL for the same price for three straight seasons before the Capitals let go of him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The Kolkata Knight Riders made full use of the opportunity and signed him for INR 12.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction. After being retained for the same price across the three seasons, the Punjab Kings signed him for a whopping price of INR 26.75 crore after a bidding war between PBKS, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals, making him the second most expensive player in IPL history.

Shreyas Iyer's contract

The BCCI dropped Shreyas Iyer from the central contract list in 2023-24 after he failed to feature in domestic competitions. Iyer led the Knight Riders to title glory in IPL 2024. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, the Punjab Kings signed him for a lucrative winning bid, according to IPL’s official website.

Iyer was promoted to the Grade B category in the annual retainership contract in 2021-22. After failing to meet the requirements of BCCI in featuring in domestic cricket, Iyer was dropped out of the BCCI’s annual retainership contract in 2023-24.

Shreyas Iyer's IPL team contract

After featuring in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2014, the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) acquired Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2015 auction. He was retained by the Capitals for seven straight years before being released ahead of IPL 2022. The Kolkata Knight Riders acquired Iyer in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He captained the team to their third IPL title in IPL 2024. According to IPL’s official website, Iyer will represent the Punjab Kings for the IPL 2025.
