The Grant Park 165 will be the first Cup Series race of July and will feature a street. It is one of the newest races on the NASCAR calendar, having been introduced in 2023. This new circuit replaced Road America on the NASCAR calendar. The Grant Park 165 is the brainchild of a collaboration between NASCAR and iRacing. The race weekend will feature famous artists, Keith Urban and the Chainsmokers. The previous Cup Series race, Ally 400, was won by Joey Logano from Team Penske.

Joey Logano is the latest driver to qualify for the NASCAR playoffs. The Ally 400 race was a long drawn race with its overtimes. Earlier, Ross Chastain and Denny Hamlin were in contention to win the race in a hard fought battle. However, during the overtime, most drivers fell short of competing hard due to lack of fuel. Joey Logano capitalized on this opportunity and ended up bagging the win ahead of rookie, Zane Smith. The championship has 11 drivers who have managed to qualify for playoffs, as of July 3.

Grant Park 165 history

Grant Park 165 made its appearance as a points-paying race in 2023 for the first time. It was announced that the race won’t have a title sponsor and instead would be named after Grant Park. The inaugural race took place during a rainstorm. The race start was delayed and hence shortened to accommodate the conditions. New Zealand racing driver Shane Van Gisbern won the first iteration of the event racing for Trackhouse Racing. He became only the second driver to win his Cup Series debut race in the history of NASCAR.
