The Cup Series’s first ever street circuit will make a return to the 2025 NASCAR calendar after two successful events in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The Grant Park 165 is the replacement to the Road America circuit. It is a part of NASCAR’s efforts to bring in a variety of circuits to provide better racing action. The Grant Park 165 was made in collaboration with iRacing. The Grant Park 165 is going to be the first race of July 2025 in the NASCAR Cup Series calendar.

Grant Park 165 was named as the “Sports Event of the Year” by Sports Business Journal. The Grant Park 165 will be supported by a Xfinity Series race on Saturday. The Xfinity Series race will be known as the Loop 110. The Xfinity Series will feature 110 miles of racing action following the same circuit layout as the Cup Series. As per NASCAR’s official website, a maximum of 41 race cars will participate in the event. The Grant Park 165 will also feature many part drivers from other racing disciplines. Shane Van Gisbern from the Supercars series was a prime example of such racers participating in the first Grant Park 165.

Grant Park 165’s history

Grant Park 165 made its appearance as a points-paying race in 2023 for the first time. It was announced that the race would not have a title sponsor and instead would be named after Grant Park. The inaugural race took place during a rainstorm. The race start was delayed and hence shortened to accommodate the conditions. New Zealand racing driver Shane Van Gisbern won the first iteration of the event racing for Trackhouse Racing. He became only the second driver to win his Cup Series debut race in the history of NASCAR. The 2024 event found Alex Bowman taking victory at the Chicago Street Race to earn himself a spot in the NASCAR playoffs.

Grant Park 165 2025 schedule

The race will take place over the weekend from 4th-6th July. According to NASCAR’s official website, the qualifying session of the race will be held on Saturday, 5th July from 1:30 PM ET. Grant Park 165 is going to be a 75 lap race held in three stages. The first stage of the race will be 20 laps and the second stage will be of 25 laps. The final stage of the race will be 30 laps. The race will be held on July 6th from 2:00 PM ET.

Grant Park 165 2025 venue

The venue for the Grant Park 165 race will be the Chicago Street Course. It is a 2.2 mile long asphalt circuit with 12 turns. The track was conceptualized in iRacing before making its debut in NASCAR. The Grant Park 165 circuit loops around Grant Park. The lap record of the circuit is held by the previous race winner Shane Van Gisbern. He clocked in a time of 1:29.914 with his Chevy Camaro ZL1.
