5 players who missed the cut at the 2025 American Express ft. Wyndham Clark

The third round of the 2025 American Express was concluded on January 18. Unlike other PGA Tour events where the cut is placed after 36-holes, this tournament saw a cut enforced after 54-holes due to being played across three courses in California.

With the tournament being played at the Pete Dye Stadium Course, La Quinta Country Club, and the Nicklaus Tournament Course, all players received a chance to play all three courses to fight for a spot on Sunday. With the top 58 players and ties with a score of 9-under par and better making it through to the final round of the event, nearly half the field was cut.

Here's a look into some of the biggest names that missed the cut at the ongoing American Express (via PGA Tour):


#1. Wyndham Clark

With the cut set at 9-under par, Wyndham Clark missed the cut at the American Express after totalling five under par over 54 holes. The PGA Tour star opened his tournament with a one-under par 71 at the La Quinta Country Club.

He took on the Nicklaus Tournament Course next and posted a three-under par 69 score. Clark's three-under par 33 front nine was stellar with no bogeys and three birdies. However, the back nine saw him record two birdies and two bogeys to have an even par 36 score.

The penultimate round of the American Express saw Clark card in a one-under par 71 on the Pete Dye Stadium Course. He was four-under par through 17 holes for the day. An unfortunate triple bogey seven on the par four 18th hole set him back.


#2. Kevin Kisner

Kevin Kisner had a tough week at the American Express. He missed the cut by a whopping eleven strokes after totalling two-over par through three days. The Jupiter Links Golf Club star opened up with a one-under par 71 score at the La Quinta Country Club. While his first nine was consistent with eight pars and one bogey, he stepped it up to achieve three birdies on the back nine.

The second round at the Nicklaus Tournament Course was off to a rocky start for him. Kisner started the day off with a double bogey 6 on the first hole and followed it up with a bogey. Unfazed by the poor start, he went on to card in 12 pars in the next 16 holes along with two birdies to total three over par 75.

Kisner put up a better show at the Pete Dye Stadium Course the next day. He posted an even par 72 score comprising of three birdies, one bogey, and one double bogey.


#3. Joel Dahmen

Joel Dahmen found himself unlucky at the 2025 American Express. Having totalled eight-under par through 54-holes, he missed the cut by one stroke. He started his tournament with a stellar eight-under par 64. The 37-year-old carded in a bogey free round comprised of six birdies and one eagle on the Nicklaus Tournament Course's par 5 fourth hole.

The second round at the Pete Dye Stadium Course saw a setback on the par four third hole. After carding in a double boegy 6 on the hole, he went on a streak of pars on the back nine to finish one-under par 71 for the day.

The penultimate round of the American Express saw Dahmen struggle a bit. Having recorded three bogeys and one double bogey, he posted a one-over par 73.


#4. Nico Echavarria

Nico Echavarria missed the cut at the 2025 American Express by three strokes. He carded in an opening round score of three-under par 69 at the La Quinta Country Club. Although he recorded six birdies, three bogeys set him back.

Echavarria played the second round at the challenging Nicklaus Tournament Course and totalled an impressive four-under par 68. Friday saw the PGA Tour golfer card in five birdies and one bogey.

Saturday was a tough day for Echavarria at the Pete Dye Stadium Course. While the two-under par 34 front nine saw three birdies and one bogey, the back nine saw two unfortunate double bogeys on the par 3 13th hole and par 4 18th hole. He ended the day with a score of one-over par 73.


#5. Tony Finau

Tony Finau totalled seven-under par through three days to miss the cut at the American Express by two strokes. The first round at the La Qunita Country Club saw him card in a three-under par 69 round with an impressive eagle on the par 5 sixth hole.

While the 35-year-old had a fairly stable front nine on Friday at the Nicklaus Tournament Course, he stepped it up on the back nine with a whopping five birdies to total six-under par 66.

Unfortunately, Finau got off to a bad start at the Pete Dye Stadium Course on Saturday. With four bogeys in the first five holes, the American was unfazed by the setback and went on a streak of pars to end the day with a 2-over par 74 score.
