The FedEx Cup season has finally arrived! With a purse of over $75 million, a series of world-renowned players will be teeing off from the TPC Southwind Course in Memphis from August 10 till August 13. As they compete, they aim to conclude the season on a high and collect huge bonuses along with points for the Ryder Cup and the purse money. This year, the FedEx Cup operates with a notable change: only 70 players are participating, as opposed to the usual 125. These players will compete in three events, vying for the opportunity to become the 2023 champion. The FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship, formerly known as the St. Jude Classic, serves as the first of the three tournaments that will conclude the PGA Tour season.
Will Zalatoris was declared the champion last year after defeating European Ryder Cup champion Sepp Straka in the third hole of the play-off and secured his reigning title on the circuit. But unfortunately, Will won't be seen in the course this time and won't be returning to defend his title as he is still recovering from a back injury that made him withdraw his name from the entire campaign.
In the initial FedEx Cup tournament, 70 of the finest players worldwide, who have earned their place in the PGA Tour's postseason, will participate. After this event, the top 50 players in the standings will qualify to compete in the upcoming BMW Championship at Olympia Fields. Finally, the last 30 players will battle it out in the Tour Championship at East Lake to conclude the season.
