Jason Anthony Day, better known as Jason Day, is a professional golfer of America. He achieved the number one position in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) on September 15, 2015 and held it for 51 weeks; as of April 2024, his OWGR is No. 21.
Day emerged victorious in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February 2014 and would later win it again in 2016, making him one of Tiger Woods and Geoff Ogilvy, who won multiple WGC's.
He defeated Austin Eckroat and Kim Si-woo by a single stroke at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, finishing with a total score of 261, under 23. That was his most recent victory. Ironically, he won his first championship on the PGA Tour in the 2010 Byron Nelson, which was then known as the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
Furthermore, he tied for second place with Tom Kim, John Rahm and Sepp Straka, losing to Brian Harman by six strokes, at the 2023 Open Championship. Being the runner-up in every major is the "runner-up grand slam" achievement. Along with playing partner Lydia Ko, Day won the first-ever Grant Thornton Invitational mixed team event in December.
As of April 2024, he has played in eight events, making the cut in six of them, with his best finish at the AT&t Pebble Beach Pro-Am, tying for sixth place with a score of 203, under 13. He has a total of 19 professional wins, with 13 on the PGA Tour, one on the Nationwide Tour, and five others.
Jason Day’s Caddie
Luke Reardon is the caddie of Jason Day as of April 2024.
After his father passed away when Jason Day was 12 years old, Colin Swatton, the former golf coach at Kooralbyn International School, took Day under his wing, and later became his caddie, as a result, Day achieved remarkable success, including winning ten events from 2010 to 2017 and becoming world no. 1 in 2015 too.
After 2017, Day continued to be coached by Swatton, but chose Luke Reardon, his old roommate from high school, to be his looper. Even then, he wasn't a final choice because Day continued to test out different caddies on the bag until the 2019 US Open, when Steve Williams, the former caddie of Tiger Woods, accompanied him.
However, the association didn't work and ended after six weeks, after which, Day and Rika Batibasaga, another friend from childhood, went back to Reardon. By 2020, Reardon, had become his permanent caddie; he was raised admiring Adam Scott and his favorite golf course is Quail Hollow.
After all, even though success didn't happen right away, that was a choice that paid off. Day fell out of the world's top 100 rankings for the majority of 2021 and 2022, a period that also happened to coincide with his mother's passing.
However, from that point on, Day has been leading the charge and with Reardon, he managed to win the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, his first PGA Tour win in five years, and briefly break into the world's top 20.
