LIV Golf is a most recently founded professional golf tour, established in 2021 with its first season taking place in 2022. However, its announcement with an early framework was released in 2019. It is funded by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund. Its name, "LIV," is a reference to the 54-hole stroke-play format played over three rounds (in Roman numerals). It does, however, add match-play features during the season-ending Team Championship.
LIV Golf's CEO as of January 2025 is Scott O'Neil, who replaced Greg Norman, the former World No. 1 Australian golf professional. At a LIV Golf event, 13 teams compete with four players per squad. In contrast to the PGA, there is no cut, and the player or team that finishes last is awarded a specific sum of money. Further, given that the tour is still in its early stages, new events are added each season, along with new courses and locations.
Full 2025 LIV Golf Schedule
In January 2025, Reuters reported that LIV Golf had revealed its 2025 schedule, which included six new locations and 14 tournaments spread over nine nations. The LIV Golf Indianapolis is a new addition to the list of events in the 2025 season from August 15-17. The season will start at the Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia on February 6–8, and it will end on August 22–24 with the Team Championship at The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort in Michigan.
The events have a total purse of $25 million, divided between individual purses of $20 million for the team and $5 million. But the Team Championship, the season’s final event, has a $50 million purse.
New venues for the events include Trump National Doral in Miami, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club close to Washington, D.C., and Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City. Events in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom are also on the schedule.
