The PGA Tour’s FedExCup Fall continues in Sin City this week with the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open. The longstanding event on the PGA Tour schedule is set to begin at the TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas on Thursday, October 17.
The 72-hole, stroke-play event lasting four days is the fourth leg of the eight-event FedExCup Fall. Much like last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship in Utah, the Shriners Children’s Open features some big-name regulars from the American circuit. Players like Stephen Jaeger, Taylor Pendrith, Tom Hoge, and Eric Cole will compete in the event alongside two-time defending champion Tom Kim.
Notably, the competition underwent a Monday open qualifier at Las Vegas' Spanish Trail Country Club & Golf Course. The qualifying event saw four golfers earn their way into the field after six players posted 7-under 64 and faced each other in a playoff.
2024 Shriners Children’s Open Monday qualifiers
Listed below are the four Monday qualifiers for the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open:
#1 Lanto Griffin
Lanto Griffin posted a 9-under 62 at the Spanish Trail Country Club on Monday to clinch one of the four qualifier spots on the Shriners Children’s Open field. The 36-year-old golfer from Mount Shasta, California, is returning to make his 145th start on the PGA Tour.
Notably, the golfer’s career highlight to date is a victory at the 2019 Texas Children's Houston Open. He will be eyeing his second-ever win at TPC Summerlin this weekend.
#2 Morgan Hoffmann
Morgan Hoffmann posted an 8-under 63 on Monday. The 35-year-old from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey has made 89 cuts in 167 PGA Tour starts in his career. Despite earning $6,039,051 from the American circuit, the Oklahoma State alum has never won. The golfer, who finished runner-up at the 2017 Cognizant Classic, will go for his maiden PGA victory at the Shriners Children’s Open.
#3 Nicolo Galletti
Nicolo Galletti carded an 8-under 63 to clinch the third of the four available spots in this week's field. Unlike the first two, the 29-year-old from Berkeley, California, has only one start on the PGA Tour to his name. Having made the cut in his debut at the 2024 WM Phoenix Open, finishing 73rd, Galletti will be attempting to seal his place on the circuit with a win this weekend.
#4 Neal Shipley
Neal Shipley is back on the PGA Tour. The 23-year-old from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania posted a 7-under 64 and advanced in a 6-for-1 playoff on Monday. The golfer, considered an emerging talent on the circuit, has already made seven cuts in eight starts. Shipley’s best finish so far came at the 2024 ISCO Championship where he tied for sixth.
The newly minted pro, who has earned $381,918 from the tour so far, was the low amateur star at the Masters and US Open. He finished T53 and T26 in the events, respectively. It’ll be interesting to see how the young golfer fares in Las Vegas this week.
