Following the Hawaiian swing, the PGA Tour will head to California for the American Express 2025. The third event of the season will take place from January 16 to January 19 at the three golf courses in La Quinta, California.
The American Express 2025 will feature a 156-player field competing for a share of the $8.8 million purse. However, ahead of the first round, several changes have taken place in the field. In this article, we will take a look at five significant changes to the lineup.

1) Xander Schauffele pulls out
Xander Schauffele was set to be the highest-ranked golfer in the American Express field. However, he decided to withdraw from the third event of the season without providing a reason. He has been replaced by Philip Knowles in the 156-player field. Schauffele was last seen competing at the TGL last week and had tied for 30th at the Sentry 2025.
2) Denny McCarthy misses the event after two successive starts
After a solid start to the season, Denny McCarthy withdrew from the American Express. He has been replaced by Aaron Baddeley in the field.
McCarthy last played at the Sony Open in Hawaii where he tied for 14th.
3) Harris English and Daniel Berger join the field
Harris English and Daniel Berger have joined the American Express 2025 field. Both played at last week's Sony Open in Hawaii 2025 and missed the cut.
4) Maverick McNealy and Seamus Power withdraw
Maverick McNealy and Seamus Power were initially named in the field for this week’s event but withdrew on Saturday, January 11. Bronson Burgoon and Matthew Riedel have joined the field in their place. This is Burgoon's first start on the PGA Tour since CJ Cup Byron Nelson while Riedel is playing first PGA Tour event after earning the card.
5) Anders Albertson and Norman Xiong earn exemption
On Monday, January 13, Anders Albertson and Norman Xiong secured the final two spots at La Quinta through sponsor exemptions. This will be the duo's first start of the year, as they were last seen at the RSM Classic.
