On Monday, October 14, Nelly Korda announced that she was forced to miss the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship after injuring her neck. Further, she will also miss the Maybank Championship in Malaysia.
The 2024 BMW Ladies Championship will be played from Thursday, October 17 to Sunday, October 20 at Seowon Valley Country Club in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The field will consist of 78 players competing for a purse of $2.2 million.
Although the World No. 1 golfer had to pull out of the event due to injury, the field at Seowon Valley will still feature plenty of star power. In this article, we will look at five top names competing this week.
Five big names competing at the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship
1) Minjee Lee
Last year, Minjee Lee beat Alison Lee in a playoff hole to win the 2023 BMW Ladies Championship. This time, she will be looking to win the event for the second straight year.
Speaking of form, Minjee Lee hasn't won a title this season and is coming here after a T8 finish at the Buick LPGA Shanghai last week.
2) Lilia Vu
World No. 2 golfer Lilia Vu is the highest-ranked player in the field after Korda's withdrawal. She was last seen competing at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship last month, where she tied for 58th.
Vu has three top-10s and a win on the LPGA Tour. Speaking of past performances, she also registered a T3 finish in South Korea a couple of years ago.
3) Ruoning Yin
Last week, Ruoning Yin won her fourth title on the LPGA Tour after triumphing at the Buick LPGA Shanghai. This was her second win of the season after winning the Dow Championship alongside Atthaya Thitikul earlier this year.
This week, Yin will be looking to carry forward her good form at the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship.
4) Lydia Ko
Lydia Ko has found success recently, as she won gold at the Paris Olympics and then claimed her third Major championship at the AIG Women’s Open. She continued her winning run by securing the Kroger Queen City Championship, in her first start in a month.
Speaking of past results, Ko was the winner here a couple of years ago. However, the golf course is different this time, and so is the challenge.
5) Jin Young Ko
Jin Young Ko is returning to the 2024 BMW Ladies Championship, where she is the most successful player so far. She has won here three times, with two of those victories coming on the KLPGA Tour. After the tournament was co-sanctioned by the LPGA Tour, she won again in 2021.
Speaking of recent form, Ko has made six top-10 finishes this season, including two runner-up results. However, she will be eager to secure a win during the Asian swing in front of her home audience.
