Dallas Mavericks fan Scottie Scheffler denied signing a fan's Boston Celtics hat as he arrived in New England for the Travelers Championship. The American golfer is an avid Dallas Mavericks fan, but the team lost to the Celtics in the NBA Finals on Monday, leaving him disappointed.

During a pre-tournament press conference, Scheffler shared details about the intriguing incident involving a fan asking him to sign a Mavericks hat after their loss.

A reporter asked him:

"You arrive in New England right after the Celtics beat the Mavs."

When the team names came up, Scheffler laughed off the question, saying:

"Do I have to answer this question?"

The reporter continued:

"That might give me my answer right there. Are you expecting to hear any trash talk, I guess, from fans or other golfers?"

Scheffler revealed that aside from Keegan Bradley, who is an avid Boston Celtics fan, none of his fellow players ribbed him about his favorite team's loss. He then disclosed that a fan tried to tease him by asking him to sign the Celtics hat, but he declined.

"Probably not from other golfers. Maybe Keegan, but probably not. I wouldn't expect it out of him. I did get one fan today who asked me to sign a Celtics hat and I told him no, but other than that not much interaction," Scheffler said.

The Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 4-1 in the best-of-seven NBA Finals.

Scottie Scheffler sets sights on Travelers Championship comeback after disappointing US Open

Scottie Scheffler is seeking a comeback at the 2024 Travelers Championship after his disappointing outing at the US Open.

He has won five tournaments this season, including the Masters at Augusta, but struggled on the greens of the Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course in North Carolina at last week's Major, shooting above 70 in all four rounds and finishing with a score of +8. It was his worst performance of the season.

According to CBS Sports, Scottie Scheffler is the favorite among experts to win the upcoming Signature event, with odds of +360. Xander Schauffele is another favorite to win the tournament with odds of +750, followed by Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg. Viktor Hovland's odds to win are +1200, while Patrick Cantlay has odds of +2000.

This season, Scottie Scheffler has participated in 14 tournaments, securing two runner-up finishes along with his five victories. He has had another five top-10 finishes, having made the cut in all the events.

The 2024 Travelers Championship is scheduled to take place from June 20 to 23 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
