Nick Dunlap won the 2024 Barracuda Championship on Sunday. The 20-year-old golfer scored 19 points in the final round, taking his four-day total to 49 points. He secured a two-point victory over Vince Whaley at the Tahoe Mountain Club.
Dunlap registered his second win on the PGA Tour and became the first player in the circuit history to win as an amateur and a pro in the same year. Dunlap birdied six of the first 12 holes on the tree-lined Old Greenwood course on Sunday to bag the $720,000 winner’s paycheck from the event’s $4,000,000 prize purse.
The golfer, who won The American Express in January as a sophomore at the University of Alabama, took 300 FedExCup points for winning the fifth and final opposite-field event on the PGA Tour’s 2024 schedule.
The 20-year-old also extended his membership exemption by another year through 2027 with his Barracuda Championship win. He gained exemptions into competitions like THE PLAYERS Championship and the PGA Championship till 2025.
Speaking about completing the amateur-pro double at the Barracuda Championship, Nick Dunlap said on Sunday, as quoted by PGATOUR.com:
“I never thought that I would have my name next to that, but it’s definitely an honor. It’s been a little tough after AmEx. You kind of lose a little bit of confidence and wonder if you can do it again.”
