"It just gives me goosebumps"- Ruoning Yin gathers home support, makes a run for victory at 2024 Buick LPGA Shanghai

Ruoning Yin opened up about playing in her home country and seeking victory on home soil. The Chinese golfer teed it up at this week's Buick LPGA Shanghai event and is in contention to win her second event of the year.

The tournament kicked off with its first round on Thursday, October 10; and following the third round on Saturday, October 12, Yin settled in second place and is in contention to win the LPGA Tour event.

During the press conference after the third round on October 12, Ruoning Yin opened up about playing on her home soil. She said (via ASAP Sports):

"I just talk to my caddie today on the course. I said it's really good to see all kids come out to watch. Even some kids just maybe don't know much about golf, but just able to see them running around and just come to hang out in the tournament, it just gives me goosebumps," Ruoning said.

Having turned pro in 2020, Ruoning Yin has already won three LPGA Tour events in her career. Her victorious run started with her maiden win at the 2023 DIO Implant LA Open, where she secured a one-stroke win over Georgia Hall, followed by victories in the 2023 Women's PGA Championship and the 2024 Dow Championship.


A look into Ruoning Yin's performance at the 2024 Buick LPGA Shanghai

Yin has kickstarted her campaign at the 2024 Buick LPGA Shanghai event with a round of 2-under 70. She started on the first tee hole and made a birdie on the second. She carded a bogey on the third hole, followed by a birdie on the ninth.

She shot four birdies and two bogeys to score 70 in the first round. In the second round, she started with two back-to-back birdies on the first two holes and then added a bogey on the fourth hole. She again made par birdies on the next two holes. She shot seven birdies and a bogey to score 6-under 66.

Ruoning Yin maintained her good form in the third round as well and shot a bogey-free round. She started with a birdie on the first hole and then added three more birdies on the front nine. She shot three birdies and an eagle on the back nine for a score of 9-under 63. With a total of 17-under, she settled in second place, just one stroke behind the leader, Mao Saigo.

Yin has started her game for the final round on Sunday, October 13, and, at the time of writing, has played 15 holes. She shot six birdies and is in the lead at 23-under and is in a promising position to win the tournament on home soil.
