Joel Dahmen has his eyes set on a spot for the 2025 Ryder Cup. However, fellow PGA Tour pro Michael Kim wants him to remove his shirt on the first tee if he makes it to the event.
Dahmen is one of the more popular golfers on the PGA Tour and gained significant fame after the Netflix golf docuseries Full Swing. He was last seen competing at the RSM Classic, where he tied for 35th.
On Tuesday, December 3, when golf journalist Kyle Porter asked for a surprise pick for the U.S. Ryder Cup squad, Joel Dahmen answered with his own name.
Michael Kim responded to Dahmen and wrote:
"Shirt is def coming off on the 1st tee"
Kim's reply referred to an incident that took place two years ago at the WM Phoenix Open. For the final round of the event, Dahmen was paired with Harry Higgs. Before the round, Dahmen tweeted that if his post received enough retweets, Higgs would go shirtless on the iconic 16th hole of TPC Scottsdale.
As a result, Higgs went shirtless, and Dahmen followed suit, even chugging a beer. It will be interesting to see if he repeats the same behavior if he gets picked for the Ryder Cup.
Can Joel Dahmen make it to the Ryder Cup 2025 squad?
As of now, Joel Dahmen's spot at the 2025 Ryder Cup is a long shot, as he is nowhere near the top of the standings for the event. He is currently 21st in the U.S. standings with just 606 points—almost 8,900 points behind the leader, Xander Schauffele.
Although Dahmen is far behind in the standings, he still has plenty of events ahead to earn points. For the uninitiated, the top 6 players in the standings at the time of the deadline will automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup 2025. The other six will be picked by captain Keegan Bradley.
