The American Express 2025 is set to tee off on Thursday, January 16, at La Quinta Country Club, the Pete Dye Stadium Course at PGA West, and the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West. The competition, being held across four days, will see a stacked PGA Tour field compete for the $1.53 million winner’s paycheck from the $8.5 million purse.
The event following the new PGA Tour schedule’s run in Hawaii will feature a list of stars, including Wyndham Clark, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, and Sungjae Im. For the unversed, World No. 7 Clark is the highest ranked player on The American Express field, however, he isn’t the favorite to win. According to SportsLine, the ace golfer sits seventh on the odds list with 33-1 odds.
Im and Thomas are the outright favorites to take victory in California. The star duo enters the weekend with 12-1 odds each. Coming on the back of a solo-third place finish at The Sentry, Im carries the upper hand in the contest.
Meanwhile, the top two are closely followed by Sam Burns with 14-1 odds. The 28-year-old also had a strong start to the year with a T8 finish at The Sentry.
Patrick Cantlay (18-1), Tony Finau (22-1) and Tom Kim (30-1) are the other big names to watch this weekend. Interestingly, The American Express reigning champion Nick Dunlap also returns to defend his title. The 21-year-old is a longshot favorite with 50-1 odds, sharing the odds with J.J. Spaun, who comes off a T-3 showing at last week's Sony Open in Hawaii.
It is pertinent to note that World No. 2 Xander Schauffele was the top-ranked player on The American Express field and was listed with 7-1 odds to win. However, the reigning PGA Championship winner withdrew from the contest on Monday.
