At the Sanderson Farms Championship, a cut will be made following the conclusion of the second round. That is currently underway, which means golfers only have a few more holes to try and improve their standing. If they can get in above the cut, which is usually the top 65 or so players and ties, they'll play Saturday and Sunday. If not, they get an early start on the weekend.
At the time of writing, the live data gives a 50.2% chance of the cut being made at six under par. There is also a 48.2% chance that the cut ends up being five under. That means that the golfers in that range are at risk and will need to do something significant to get out of potential trouble.
Those include Peter Malnati, Kevin Tway, Ryo Hisatsune, Nick Hardy, Alex Smalley, Andrew Novak, and Martin Trainer. They are all at five under, which means they're above one projected cut line but not the other.
Other notable golfers who are in much more danger of missing the cut include (scores at the time of writing):
- Patrick Rodgers -4
- Justin Suh -4
- Chris Gotterup -3
- Matt Kuchar -2
- Zach Johnson -2
- Davis Riley +2
Not everyone has finished their round, but the projected cut line shifts with every completed hole. Those in the group listed above are likely going to miss the cut no matter what they do, as they are currently fairly far off any projected cut line.
Please note that the projected cut is rapidly shifting. All numbers were given at the time of writing but may have changed slightly.
David Skinns laments shooting 60 at Sanderson Farms Championship
David Skinns enjoyed a historically good round at the Sanderson Farms Championship, shooting 60 and 12 under par. It was one of the best rounds possible in golf, but the golfer wasn't altogether pleased with his result.
Via Golf.com, he said:
“It’s hard not to be a little bit disappointed because how many nine-footers are you going to get to shoot 59? I’m sure I’m not going to get many. Tough not to be a little bit disappointed, but I really want to just look back on how kind of in control mentally I felt, how I kept attacking. Wasn’t really thinking about the future at all, which is kind of the thing I’m going to take away from today.”
Skinns couldn't land the putt that would have given him a 59 at the Sanderson Farms Championship. That's a number only 14 golfers have ever done, and only five of them have shot the -13 that Skinns would have had.
He is currently even in the second round and is tied for fourth overall.
