Mao Saigo, who leads the ranking for 2024 Rookie of the Year on the LPGA Tour, carded a bogey-free round of one eagle and five birdies to finish on seven-under par and take the lead from Sei Young Kim.
The Korean could not match her opening day performance (10-under 62, course and Buick LPGA Shanghai record) and dropped to third after a 3-under 69 on Saturday.
Shanghai-born and major champion Ruoning Yin carded the lowest score of the round, 9-under 63. Yin was bogey-free, carding one eagle and seven birdies to move into a share of second place.
Speaking to the LPGA Tour News Service after the third round of the Buick LPGA Shanghai, Ruoning Yin said:
"I think tomorrow I'm playing as a chaser, and I think just I have a little goal for myself every day, and I think if I'm able to complete my goal I'm happy about whatever the result is."
Yin was at such a high level on Saturday that she needed just 26 putts to complete her round, an average of just 1.44 putts per hole.
