Patrick Cantlay

The 2021 FedEx Cup Champion, Patrick Cantlay, is ranked No. 8 by OWGR as of July 2024. The 32-year-old golfer, who was born in Long Beach, California, is a member of the PGA Tour. At Servite High School, he began his amateur career. Later, he held the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a record-breaking 55 weeks.

Turning professional in 2012, Cantlay has a total of nine professional wins, first at the 2013 Colombia Championship, with the most recent win at the 2022 BMW Championship, where he defeated Scott Stallings for a score of 270, under 14 by a single stroke. He shot consecutive rounds in the Masters Tournament and RBC Heritage early in the 2023 season, finishing tied for 14th and third, respectively. His slow play tempo garnered most of the media attention, in spite of his strong finishes.

Patrick Cantlay’s Driver

Cantlay was one of the staff members who didn't upgrade to the newer TS models when they were released because he had been using the Titleist 917D2 driver for a long time. He has changed to the TS3, though. It has been equipped with a Mitsbushi Diamana ZF 60 TX and has 8.75 degrees of loft. The adjustment options on the TS3 are good if you want to modify things like dispersion or loft. It offered speed from the first shot.

Patrick Cantlay’s Fairways

Given that the fairway wood is such a challenging club to master, Cantlay, like many other professionals, hardly ever switches it, and as a result, he keeps using a Titleist 915F model. The Active Recoil Channel (ARC) was the feature that caused some controversy at the time. The club's sole had a slot carved into it that was supposed to allow for additional flex at impact.

This was intended to quicken the ball on thin shots and lessen spin for a lower flight. The next club in his bag is a Titleist TS2 five-wood with 21 degrees of loft, though he has a preference for carrying a hybrid with this loft as well.

Patrick Cantlay’s Irons

Cantlay has a set of 718 AP2 irons in his bag that range in size from a four-iron all the way down to a pitching wedge after he briefly utilized the more recent T100 irons. These initially appeared on the Tour in 2017, and Cantlay is a player who doesn't switch clubs much.

The 718 AP2 was Titleist's final AP2 model and was created for better players who want a short blade length, a narrow topline, and little offset. The irons' greater forgiveness and stability were a result of internal tungsten weights. A Titleist T200 three-iron is another club that Cantlay occasionally uses, but it comes and goes from his bag.

Patrick Cantlay’s Wedges

Cantlay carries two SM7s in his bag: a 47 degree (10F) and a 52 degree (08F) Vokey wedge. He has used several generations of Vokey wedges in the past, like SM5, SM6, and SM7. Also, he possesses two Titleist Vokey SM9 wedges, a 61-degree (T-grind) and a 57-degree (08M). He has his initials engraved on the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S300 shafts that are installed in his wedges.

Patrick Cantlay’s Putter

The putter is one club in the bag that Cantlay does seem to be more open to experimenting with. Originally a Newport Blade player, the Ryder Cupper converted to a mallet design in 2021. He seems to still be using a Scotty Cameron T-5 Proto putter, which has a SuperStroke grip.

Patrick Cantlay’s Golf Ball

One of the greatest premium golf balls available in 2024 is the Titleist Pro V1x, which Cantlay uses. In every aspect of the game, the most recent Titleist Pro V1x version performs well. Golf Monthly observed an increase in ball speed off the tee that provided exceptional distance when paired with a robust flight.
