Rory McIlroy is a four-time major champion and was once No. 1 for 122 weeks in March 2012. As of April 2025, his ranking is No. 2 as per the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). At 17, he reached No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a week and turned professional in 2007.

McIlroy has 43 professional victories, of which 28 came on the PGA Tour and 18 on the European Tour. However, his first professional win was in 2009 on the European Tour. He also became the youngest golfer to earn €10 million on the European Tour in 2011 and $10 million on the PGA Tour in 2012. He has played in the Ryder Cup for the European team in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2023. He also won the RTE Sports Person of the Year in 2011 and 2014.

Rory McIlroy’s Masters Tournament Wins

Rory McIlroy began the final round 10 strokes behind Scottie Scheffler and finished second with an 8-under-par 64. He was defeated by Scheffler by a margin of three strokes, his best major finish since 2014.

Rory McIlroy has won the PGA Championship two times, in 2012 and 2014.

McIlroy won the 2012 PGA Championship with a birdie on the final hole. He would win by eight shots, setting a record for the PGA Championship margin of victory. He led the field by three strokes going into the final round and easily defeated them with a perfect, bogey-free 66. After Seve Ballesteros won the 1980 Masters Tournament, McIlroy, at 22 years old, became the youngest multiple major champion. Moving on, McIlroy defeated Phil Mickelson by one stroke to win the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.

McIlroy's first major victory came in June 2011 at the U.S. Open, defeating Jason Day by eight strokes. In the process of winning the event, he broke several scoring records, like McIlroy's total score of 268, breaking the previous record of 272 held by Jim Fury, Tiger Woods, Lee Janzen, and Jack Nicklaus. He also broke the under-par record of Woods set in 2000 for 12 under, while McIlroy scored 16 under.

Further, in the second round of the event, he achieved 13 under par with a birdie on the 17th hole, being the first golfer to do so. Also, his total score on the day of 131, 11 under, was the lowest to achieve in 36 holes in the history of the event. Even in the third round, his total score of 199 is a scoring record, too, for 54 holes at the major.

Rory McIlroy’s Open Championship Wins

Rory McIlroy won the Open Championship once in 2014.

Rory McIlroy won the 2014 Open Championship against Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia with a score of 271, under 17, by a margin of two strokes. This win also made him one of the three golfers to win three majors before turning 25.

Rory McIlroy’s Players Championship Wins

Rory McIlroy has won two Players Championships, in 2019 and 2025.

McIlroy won the 2019 Players Championship against Jim Furyk by a margin of one stroke, with a score of 272, under 16. Since Sandy Lyle's 1987 win, this was the second time a British golfer won the Players Championship. Notably, by this time, he had already won 15 PGA victories, making him the third golfer to achieve it before the age of 30, after Woods and Nicklaus. His second Players Championship win came in March 2025, defeating J.J. Spaun in the playoffs. Both of them tied at the score of 276, 12 under, while in the three-hole aggregate playoffs, McIlroy won.

Rory McIlroy’s FedEx Cup Wins

Rory McIlroy won the FedEx Cup three times, in 2016, 2019, and 2022.

The 2016 Tour Championship was won by Rory McIlroy against Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell in a playoff with a score of 268, under 12, winning a bonus of $10 million and his first FedEx Cup. In 2019, he matched Tiger Woods’ record of two FedEx Cup cups with his victory and the bonus of $15 million, and he surpassed Woods’ record with his 2022 FedEx Cup victory and the bonus of $18 million.
