American golfer Taylor Montgomery was born on January 30, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nevada. His father, Monte Montgomery, was also a professional golfer before Taylor's birth. At Foothill High School, he won the state's 4A boys high school individual championship in 2011 and 2013; after graduating, he attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
At UNLV, he won the 2014 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, under the coaching of Dwaine Knight, who ironically also coached his father. His junior and senior years weren't so great, as he had issues keeping the ball in play; nevertheless, he graduated and turned professional in 2017.
In the same season, he won the Major Series of Putting tournament while having Kurt Kitayama as his teammate. His putting skills have always been lauded, especially by his UNLV teammate Harry Hall. By late September 2018, he had won a mini-tour event, the Sand Hollow Leavitt Group Open, which granted him exemption for the Web.com Tour's 2019 Utah Championship.
Montgomery's first professional win came at the 2019 Long Beach Open, where he defeated Blake Abercrombie and Matt Picanso by a margin of five strokes. This is his only professional victory yet. With no significant finishes over the next few seasons, his 2022 Farmer Insurance Open's T11 finish was a change from his usual finishes. Followed by a third place finish at the 2022 Fortinet Championship and then a few more top-20 finishes.
His 2023 season was also similar to that of 2022, with ups and downs and nothing of much significance, but his solo fifth finish at the 2023 American Express was highlighted as he finished with 264, under 24.
