The United States Golf Association (USGA), which was founded a year before the US Open, inaugurated the US Open (United States Open Championship) at the Newport Country Club, a nine-hole course, in Rhode Island in 1895. Horace Rawlins was the winner then.

The U.S. Open is played on a variety of courses, all of which are intended to emphasize accurate driving and make scoring very difficult. It is contested in four rounds of 18 holes each, stroke-play style. Usually, the event happens on the third Sunday in the middle of June.

Professionals and amateurs make up the 156-player field for the event, but the majority of the field is already made up of golfers who are totally exempt. The PGA and the European Tour, respectively, recognize it as the third major in golf and one of the most prestigious annual golf tournaments.

What are the 2024 US Open Qualifiers?

The US Open qualifiers are the way a golfer, both professional and amateur, can have a chance to play at the golf major, which is the third major of the season. There are two ways to be qualified for the event, firstly, through exemptions, which are attained by winning other majors and significant events, among other factors. Secondly, through qualifying rounds held at different golf courses and then the final qualifying for the golfers who advance through local qualifying.

On May 20, the opening round of the US Open Qualifying 2024 was held at three of the 13 locations worldwide in Japan, England, and Dallas, Texas. Golfers competed in strokeplay events over 36 holes in a single day. A total of 31 players competed for 11 spots in the event held at the Gold & Blue Courses of the Dallas Athletic Club in Texas.
