The pitch that's going to be used today is the one that was used in Chennai Super Kings' first game, which they won. From the far end, the dimensions are - 68m to the off-side boundary, 65m to the on-side boundary and 80m straight down the ground. But it looks like a slightly better surface than the won played between CSK and Mumbai Indians. It's pretty hard and got a pretty nice covering of grass too. What makes it even harder to read for their fans, is the fact that MS Dhoni came back as captain today itself! So, they have to pick themselves up quickly. I just try to focus on what's my strength. Yes the batters are getting better and better, but if you focus too much on the batter, you tend to go on the back foot straightaway. It's very simple - trying to get the team off to a flying start. Sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesn't, but the team gives me freedom to do it and I go ahead."

Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders captain): "We had our plans. I played here for the last two years, Moeen Ali too and DJ Bravo has been a big name here. We executed our plans well, I must say! Moeen Ali: Yeah it was nice with two left handers. Tried to keep it as tight as can. Rinku’s dive early on my spell helped me gain in confidence. In powerplay, I don't try to bowl too quick. Shape on the ball and spin the ball as much as I can. Narine and Chakaravarthy are amazing spinners. Especially Sunil has been doing this for a long time. I am learning from them but still trying to be authentic to myself. You just need to one to grip to put some doubts on the batter’s mind. It was nice to have two left handers at the top.

MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings captain): I think there's been quite a few nights which hasn't gone out way. It's about figuring out how to play the difficult deliveries. Just not enough runs on the board. It was stopping a bit but if you lose too many wickets, cricket looks different and with so many quality spinners it didn't really happen. We needed much more application than what we did. Well what is important is to see the conditions. We have done well on a couple of occasions. Our good openers are good cricketers, they need to play authentic shots. If you start looking for 60-64 it gets difficult with the batting line up we have. If we lose too many wickets, things gets different for the middle order as they have to wait a longer time to start slogging.

Kolkata Knight Riders have jumped from a negative net run rate, to a positive one, in a matter of overs! Yes, they have trumped Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk and made a mockery of the 5-time champions' proud record at home! And, for the first time, CSK have lost five matches in a row.

One would have thought that batting against spin would be tough. It was, but only against Noor Ahmad. Otherwise, whoever bowled, went the journey. As if, the pitch was changed! Interestingly enough, MS Dhoni brought Noor into the attack much later, but the left-arm wrist spinner made an instant impact, picking up the wicket of Sunil Narine and steering more clear in the Purple Cap race.

As for KKR, all the batters who went out there to bat, were dominating. The idea was to score the runs as quickly as possible to increase the net run rate, and that plan got executed to perfection! Mind you, the bowling from CSK was also average. And the drop catch by Vijay Shankar did not help the home team either. The batter who got the reprieve was KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

CSK are now 9th in the standings with only 1 win under their belt while KKR move up to 3rd with 3 wins. But this one was a bit of a clinic, against one of the most decorated and successful franchise teams out there!

Quicker on a fuller-length around the leg stump, down on one knee goes Rinku and nails the slog sweep, sends it well over the square leg boundary.
