One pitch over from the other night - 63 meters on one side, 70 meters on the other. The straight hit is 74 meters long. The pitch does look really good. There was quite a lot of dew yesterday. There are some patches where there's not a lot of grass - the ball was gripping a bit and that's something the captains have to be wary of. Off-pace deliveries will work for the seamers. It's not a 200+ wicket - tonight's going to be a battle of attrition. Around 170 is a bowl of rice but if you want some curry on the side as well, you want 185.

11:40 PM IST: That brings us to the end of the contest between CSK and RCB and change in fortunes for RCB at Chepauk. They win here for the first time in 17 years and takes all the momentum to their next game. Meanwhile CSK was literally blown away today and was behind the eight ball for the majority of the game. The win will give a lot of confidence to RCB while CSK have a few things to ponder on. The IPL carnival continues tomorrow with Mumbai Indians slated to square off against the Gujarat Titans in the 9th match of the competition. Do join us at 6:30 PM sharp for the pre match with the match starting at 7:30 PM. Up until then, this is the pair of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Darpan Tikiya biding adieu. Good night folks.
Rajat Patidar is the RCB captain and also the Player of the Match: I think it was a good total on this surface. It wasn't easy for the batters to hit boundaries and sixes easily. It's always special playing at Chepauk. The way they support the team is great. It's always amazing to play in their home ground as they support every team. We were targetting around 200 runs. We knew it wasn't easy to chase. My goal was clear, as long as I was there I need to maximize every bowler. I don't think so, it was the same line up like the previous game so it was same. This track was pretty much helpful, I knew I could use my spinners earlier. The way Livingstone came and bowled it was superb. It was amazing to see how Hazlewood and Bhuvi bowled in the hard lengths.
Josh Hazlewood gets the award for bowling most dot balls in the match.
Rachin Ravindra gets the award for hitting most fours in the match.
Rajat Patidar gets the award for hitting most sixes.
Josh Hazlewood gets the award for garnering most fantasy points.
Phil Salt gets the award for the best strike rate in the match (minimum 10 balls).
Time for the post match presentation ceremony.
Josh Hazlewood (Royal Challengers Bengaluru): "As a group tonight, I thought we were outstanding. Great mix of pace and spin and we executed our plans nicely. With this wicket here, you get a bit of an up and down bounce. I was trying to hit that 8-10m length. Me and Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) are a bit different. With me, it is more of seam, with him it is more of spin. Whenever, you get injured, it can be frustrating, but it is about how you use time off. A couple of months in the gym help. We exhibited good energy in the field. Yash Dayal's changes of pace were great today. Having a left-armer helps."
Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings captain): "To be honest, I feel 170 was the par score on this wicket. It was tough to bat. The dropped catches cost us. When you are chasing 170, you bat a bit differently. But 20 runs extra make a difference to your approach. It was a bit sticky in the second innings. Rahul Tripathi backed his shot. So did I. When you are chasing 20 runs extra, you want to play your shots. But sometimes it does not come off. But in the end, I am happy we lost only by a few runs. We dropped catches at crucial time. They kept going, boundaries kept on coming. The momentum kept on going towards them. We don't have a lot of time before the next game. A long flight to Guwahati ahead."
11:16 PM IST: Royal Challengers Bengaluru won by 50 runs
Rajat Patidar 51(32) | Josh Hazlewood 3/21(4) Rachin Ravindra 41(31) | Noor Ahmad 3/36(4)
It turned out to be a thoroughly professional bowling display from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as they won their first game at the Chepauk in 17 years, beating CSK by a massive margin of runs. In the process, they also registered their second win in succession to top the points table.
The target of 197 was always going to be a difficult task for CSK and once Josh Hazlewood got two early wickets, the pressure kept mounting and there was no way back for the yellow army. After a good opening over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hazlewood bowled a stunning first over, sending back Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in quick succession.
From there on, CSK had to play catch up all through the innings. Out came Deepak Hooda at number four and he was nicked off by Bhuvneshwar as CSK was reduced to 26/3. Sam Curran was sent in as number five but couldn't quite make an impact. He was dismissed by his country man Liam Livingstone as CSK kept sliding down the barrel.
Shivam Dube came and smashed a few lusty blows but by then CSK were well behind in the eight ball and needed something miraculous to win that from there. Yash Dayal was brought back in the 14th over and he dismissed both the set batters.
Towards the end it was Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni who smashed some lusty blows but that was always going to come in a losing game. RCB eventually won by 50 runs to register their second win of the tournament. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers with three to his name while Yash Dayal and Liam Livingstone chipped in with a couple
11:13 PM IST: RCB register just their second win at the Chepauk, breaching CSK's fortress after 17 long years. They were exceptional in the field and Rajat Patidar after a great knock, led his team beautifully as RCB win by 50 runs. MS Dhoni did finish it off with some massive blows and the crowd will go back home satisfied just due to these big shots. A perfect start for RCB to the 18th season and they would believe this might be the year when they bag their maiden IPL trophy.

19.6 Krunal Pandya to MS Dhoni, FOUR! Another seamer like short ball. Dhoni stood tall and swatted it towards the long leg boundary. The crowd loves it. But in the context of the result of this game, it barely matters. RCB win by 50 runs.
19.5 Krunal Pandya to MS Dhoni, dot ball. Darted in near the tram line on the off side, on a full length. Dhoni did not offer a shot.
This is what the crowd came here to witness and they are getting some big blows from their very own MS Dhoni.
19.4 Krunal Pandya to MS Dhoni, SIX MORE! Similar delivery. Dhoni whipped his hands across and got enough bat on it. This one went high and long enough too. Over the leg side boundary for six.
19.3 Krunal Pandya to MS Dhoni, SIX! MASSIVE! Slot ball from Pandya, angling in towards the middle and leg. Dhoni's connection was sweet. Pummeled over the midwicket boundary.
19.2 Krunal Pandya to MS Dhoni, a seamer like BOUNCER! 115.2kph. Dhoni misses the pull shot and Jitesh did well to collect it.
19.1 Krunal Pandya to MS Dhoni, good length, off and middle line, 92kph. Dhoni parries it to cover.
