11 PM IST: We have come to the end our coverage for yet another IPL match. A thoroughly dominating performance from the Punjab Kings as they thumped Lucknow Super Giants on their home ground. They have a solid team this year and will be hoping to go all the way. The back to back wins will give them a lot of confidence going forward but LSG have a lot to ponder on. They have a serious batting line up but it's there bowling attack which is a matter of concern. They are lacking genuine match winners and hence the batters have to provide the bowlers with some cushion and score big almost everytime. Like always it was a pleasure bringing the live coverage from this encounter to our lovely viewers. The IPL carnival continues tomorrow with RCB set to host the Gujarat Titans. The Pakistan-New Zealand 3rd ODI also commences in a few hours time so a lot of cricketing action lined up for tomorrow. Up until the next time from our side, this is the pair of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Pradeep signing off. Goodnight fellas!
Prabhsimran Singh is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: Everyone knows Ricky is a legend, he always speaks positive. There is no if in his dictionary. He always asks to go out with a positive intent and try and win. Actually he has told us to back our game, the goal if one is set, he has to finish the match. I have practiced the switch hits quite a lot in the nets and luckily a few came off today. If some youngster gets a start then he should try and make it big as this is the platform where you can realise your dream of playing for India.
Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings captain): Absolutely this is the start we required and everyone implemented and played according to the plans we had in the meeting. See there is no right combination, the camaraderie and the synergy has to click. You need to have similar kind of mindset and go out with one goal of winning the match. I always try to be in the present. Today's knock as well is history for me, I will look forward to the next match.
Digvesh Singh gets the award for bowling most dot deliveries in the match.
Prabhsimran Singh gets the award for hitting most fours in the match.
Shreyas Iyer gets the award for hitting most sixes in the match.
Prabhsimran Singh gets the award for scoring most fantasy points.
Abdul Samad gets the award for scoring at the best strike rate in the match.
Time for the post match presentation ceremony with Deep Dasgupta.
Nehal Wadhera [Punjab Kings]: We needed this win, Shreyas bhai and everyone played well, bowled well. Prabhsimran started off well, set the tone for us. I didn't feel much nerves, I didn't even know I was playing today, brought just one kit and came to know later. I went out and thought about playing my shots, didn't wanted to try something out of the ordinary. I was trying to hit him, I didn't, the way Shreyas batted was remarkable. All credit goes him, boosting the confidence and that helps me play my game. When I came here, the experience I had gained in the last two years, I wanted to showcase here in Punjab team. Role is to finish the game, that's how I've been preparing myself in the last two months. Ponting is one of the best coaches going around, he just talks positive, when a coach gives remarks like that, it automatically helps you do well.
Rishabh Pant [LSG captain]: It wasn't enough surely, we were 20 or 25 runs short, it's part and parcel of the game. It's still early days, we've failed to assess the conditions. It's always tough to get a bigger total when you lose early wickets, you can't control a lot of things and the batters tried their best to take the game forward from there. The idea was to get a slow wicket, it's a home game, it's going to stop a little one. When you bowl into the wicket, it was still sticking into it. We weren't good enough, just learn from it and move on. Lot of positives, still early in the tournament, figuring out a lot of things and hopefully improve.
10:40 PM IST: Punjab Kings won by 8 wickets (with 22 deliveries to spare)
It was a complete demolition job from the Punjab Kings as they romped past the Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets to make it two out of two. The Punjab Kings weren't quite challenged at any stage of the innings and in the end, the target of 172 was chased down with 22 deliveries to spare. The opening duo of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out firing all cylinders.
Prabhsimran in particular looked a totally different player and took calculated risks in the powerplay to get going. He was at his ominous best and despite the departure of his partner, he continued the carnage and made light work of the LSG bowling attack. He used the field to a nicety and managed to keep finding the gaps besides clearing the ropes as well.
His knock of 69 came off just 34 deliveries which included in 9 fours and 3 sixes before a terrific catch in the deep from Ayush Badoni and Ravi Bishnoi sent him back to the pavilion. Nehal Wadhera was sent up the order and struggled to get going initially. However once he got going, there was just no stopping him.
He kept clearing the fence and smashed four sixes during his quickfire knock of 43. The captain Shreyas Iyer who came in at number three went about his business in an unfazed manner. He played second fiddle to Prabhsimran but himself scored at a brisk rate. He eventually remained unbeaten on 52 and struck a six off the final delivery of the match to see his side through.
10:37 PM IST: Shreyas Iyer finishes it off in style and it was a complete domination job from the Punjab Kings. LSG posted just in excess which didn't prove anywhere close to being enough. PBKS steamrolling towards the victory target and it will be a bitter pill to swallow for LSG especially on their home ground. PBKS looking very strong and registers their second win in as many games.
Shreyas Iyer Scored 52 runs in 30 balls
16.2 Abdul Samad to Shreyas Iyer, SIX! PBKS HAND A PROPER THRASHING TO LSG! Iyer finishes things in style and also brings up the fifty in style. Back to back half-century and also back to back victories, what a statement win this from PBKS. On a length on middle and leg, Iyer leans and clobbered it all the way over long-on to seal the game.
16.1 Abdul Samad to Shreyas Iyer, drops it short on leg-stump, Iyer backs away and looks cut, but mistimes it to short cover for a dot.
Abdul Samad's New Bowling spell
Strategic Time Out!
Just a solitary run required for Punjab to finish the match and would you believe it, there will be a strategic time out. With one run needed, it could have been avoided but you have to take the time out after the 16th over so there was no other options to be honest. Not sure there will be any discussion for the LSG players.
