- There is a little bit of wind around. It has gotten a little bit cooler too. Shorter bounday on one side (59m), compared to the other (67m). The straight boundary is 72m. There is a bit of grass covering. There will be some help for the fast bowlers. But you have to be spot-on with your lengths. A little bit short and you will get hooped over the short boundaries. That would be all from me, Dwaipayan Mukherjee, as New Zealand wrap up the series with a match in hand. Along with my hard-working co-commentator, Bidipto, this is curtains down from this game! We will see you soon.

Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain) : We cannot complain. We opened up pretty well with the bat in hand. We did lose wickets in the middle but the score was a competitive one. We were looking at the 280 mark and credit to Theekshana as he made us hit to the big parts of the ground. Usually it does swing a bit under the lights but the bounce that we can get makes it challenging for the batters. The last game is another important match for us. It will be useful game time for the guys to understand what roles they would be playing in Pakistan for Champions Trophy along with a few other guys who will be traveling with us for that prestigious competition.

Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka Captain) : I think it was a fair pitch for the batters. It is a small ground and that batting in the powerplay costed us the match. We could do better. We are still finding the reasons why we cannot do in ODIs what we can perform in the T20Is. The overcast conditions is where we thought we get early wickets but unfortunately, we were not able to do that.

Rachin Ravindra (Player of the Match, 79 off 63 balls): I enjoy the ODI format! We don't see too many games in this format these days, but I grew up watching it and love it. I loved batting on this wicket, the partnership I had with Mark Chapman helped and I think I could have done better than chunking it to the fielder to get out! Under lights, we used the nip off the seam well and the extra bounce.

Dominant display by New Zealand at Hamilton tonight. Sri Lanka have picked up the most ODI hat-tricks in the history of the game with 10 such instances. Pakistan are next in the list with 8, Australia have got 6. Bangladesh and India have both got 5 each. That would be the only piece of good memory for the visitors from this match as their batting never really arrived in the chase.

It did not take long for New Zealand to strike in the chase. Jacob Duffy was able to extract a false shot from Nissanka's bat in what was an awful piece of timing which saw the first wicket go down in only the 2nd over of the innings.

The first dropped catch of the innings happened as Will Young was the guilty man. Standing in the slip cordon, it burst through his hands. But New Zealand did not have to wait long for their 2nd wicket as they sent a caught behind decision upstairs to get it reversed in their favour, after the umpire initially deemed it not out.

Wickets kept tumbling at such a fast rate that when skipper Charith Asalanka had come out to bat at the fall of the 3rd wicket, neither of the batters at the crease had faced even a single ball. It was a horrible judgement of run that led to yet another run out with the visitors tottering at 22 for 4, after getting reduced to 23 for 4 in Wellington in the first ODI, just a few days ago.

The 5th wicket stand did stretch out for 57 runs but Nathan Smith broke the partnership just when it started to look threatening for the hosts. Kamindu Mendis brought up his 2nd ODI fifty with consecutive boundaries against Daryl Mitchell. He battled through a number of the Kiwis bowlers during tough situations and richly deserved the milestone. Another run-out meant that Sri Lanka never helped themselves every time they got into a position to challenge the hosts in the chase.

14 balls for a single run by Theekshana in a chase where the required rate is close to 14 forced Mendis to go for the big shot when Will O'Rourke returned for a new spell in the 29th over. The half-centurion was starved for the strike for the good part of 3 overs which saw the asking rate skyrocket. In the end, it was all a bit too much for Sri Lanka to do.

SL have lost 14 out of their last 18 ODIs in these shores. They have lost each of their last 8 ODIs, getting bowled out in each one of them. A couple of sensational catches led to the close of this match, which would undoubtedly make the highlights package. Stick around for the presentations!
